Who We Are
Detroit Chapter #9 of the Vietnam Veterans of America is part of a national organization that is passionate about helping Vietnam veterans and their families with a variety of issues.
We do this by providing access to resources, advocating for veteran-centered legislative policies, and partnering with public and private community stakeholders, donors, and charitable organizations to support Vietnam veterans and their families. We are also passionate about giving back to the Detroit community.

VVA Chapter 9 fully supports the goals and founding principles of the National Vietnam Veterans organization, which are as follows:
VVA Goals
VVA’s goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam veterans. VVA strives to achieve the following:
- Aggressively advocate on issues important to veterans
- Seek full access to quality health care for veterans
- Identify the full range of disabling injuries and illnesses incurred during military service
- Hold government agencies accountable for following laws mandating veterans health care
- Create a positive public perception of Vietnam veterans
- Seek the fullest possible accounting of America’s POWs and MIAs
- Support the next generation of America’s war veterans
- Serve our communities

VVA knows what returning veterans face. We have been through it before and we know that, despite all the rhetoric, returning veterans will face major problems. VVA will be here for as long as it takes to make sure that those who serve our country receive the care and respect they have earned.

GET INVOLVED!
As a member of Chapter 9, you become part of a national organization that has worked tirelessly in raising the public perception of the Vietnam veteran. Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. has more than 700 chapters nationwide. On a local level, as a member of Chapter 9, you will meet other veterans who have experienced Vietnam and the era which our generation of veterans helped define.
