Veterans group donates masks to Detroit VA Hospital
Veterans from the Detroit #9 Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America are donating masks to the John Dingell Veterans Administration Medical Center to support the center’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response.
After returning from the Air Force to Detroit in 1972, Richard Chatman headed to suburbs like Dearborn and Royal Oak each year for Veterans Day parades because there wasn’t anything organized in his city.

Civilians running alongside decorated veterans and soldiers took over Detroit streets Sunday. In a unique pairing of events, Detroit’s Veterans Day parade and the 4 Star 4 Mile Race took place. For race Director Doug Howell it’s a dream born from pain and loss. Howell served as a Marine in the Vietnam War.
As Detroit moves along its path for renewal and enlightenment, making the most of our newfound cool status requires that we be ready to handle the growth.
Metro Detroit activities planned to observe Veterans Day
Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11. This year marks the 100th anniversary observance of Veterans Day. It was originally called “Armistice Day”; established on Nov. 11, 1919 to observe the 1st year anniversary of the end of World War I.

Food boxes distributed to veterans, seniors and others in need
The Metropolitan Detroit Veterans Coalition (MDVC) teamed up with the American Legion, Department of Michigan, Detroit Chapter #9 of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Gleaners Food Bank of Michigan and distributed 400 food boxes Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020 to veterans, seniors and others in need.
