NOVEMBER 15, 1943 – JUNE 24, 2015 – U.S. AIR FORCE & VIETNAM VETERAN

Al Barrios was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 15, 1943 to Angelo and Rose Barrios. Al was one of four children, two sisters, Hope and Peggy and one brother Larry.

Al and Anne were married in Wayne, Michigan on December 26, 1980. They have a unique tradition of celebrating their union at the half way mark. June 26, 2015 would have marked their 34 ½ year anniversary. Their union blended their five children into one loving family – Deanna, Darlene, Michael, Anita and Maria.

Al loved sports, especially baseball and football. The Detroit Tigers were his favorite team.

Al loved traveling and he and Anne especially loved visiting their grandchildren in Michigan and Florida. Al spent his final week doing what he loved most… spending time and sharing love and laughter with his children and grandchildren. He had flown to Michigan (from his home in Las Vegas) for the high school graduation of his grandson. He returned a happy and satisfied man.

Al and Anne became foster parents 35 years ago. They have provided many children with the love, warmth and acceptance needed for them to feel whole and healed as they moved on with their lives. They have been part of the SAFY family for many years in their role as foster parents. Many of the children they cared for call and update them on the positive steps made in their lives because of Al and Anne.

Al passed on June 24, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. He leaves a host of family, friends, children and grandchildren whose lives he has made richer by sharing his heart and home.
