March 16, 1947 – February 20, 2025

Bill Hitzelberger, 77, of Fraser, MI, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Detroit to the late Victor and Ann Hitzelburger, Bill was raised in Utica, which later became Sterling Heights. He proudly served in the United States Army, spending his active-duty years from July 20, 1966, to July 19, 1968, in Vietnam. He continued his commitment to service in the Army Reserve until his honorable discharge on July 19, 1972. A proud veteran, Bill remained deeply connected to the veteran community, serving as past commander of VFW Post 6691 in Fraser. He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and Vietnam Veterans of America Detroit Chapter 9 and AVVA Chapter 9.

After his military service, Bill built a long and successful career as Chief Engineer at Thorn Apple Valley, where he dedicated over 40 years of hard work and leadership. He also co-owned Biras Inc. with his late brother, Ralph.

Bill had a zest for life and a deep love for his family. In his younger years, he found joy in boating, fishing, camping, and soaking up the sun, making the most of every adventure. As he grew older, he developed a passion for the thrill of a good game—whether it was playing cards with friends and family or trying his luck at casinos across Michigan. No matter where life took him, one thing remained constant—his love for family. To Bill, family was everything.

Bill was the beloved husband of Linda Hitzelberger for 51 wonderful years. He was a devoted father to Bill (Jennifer) Hitzelberger Jr., Bob (Ann) Hitzelberger, Mike (Noelle) Hitzelberger, and Keri (Jordan) Sundell. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Ben, Hunter, Charlie, Sydney, Lucie, Jack, Olivia, Stella, Tucker, and Mckinley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph, and his brother-in-law John Russo. He is survived by his sisters Jeanette (Wally), Virginia (Milt), Carol (Frank), and Joann Russo, as well as countless friends, especially those from VFW Post 6691, where he found lifelong camaraderie and a shared dedication to service.

Bill was a devoted husband, a caring father, and an incredible grandfather. His family’s hearts are broken by his passing, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
