George G. Sheppard III, 75, passed away on December 1, 2022 in the hospital near his home in Hudson, Florida. He is survived by his step-sister Tweety and cousins Mike Rankin and Shelly Kerr. He was pre-deceased by his half-sister Denise and step-sister Jan.
Born in Fraser, Michigan, on September 10, 1947he was the son of Elaine and George Sheppard Jr.He attended Fraser Public Schools as well as a military school. His family-owned Sheppard’s Inn a very popular restaurant in Fraser where he spent many years as manager. When called to serve in the Vietnam war, George enlisted in the US Army and flew UH-1 “Huey” helicopters. He had a great personality and spent most of his career in sales, primarily the insurance business. He spent many years travelling the world as an agent to U.S. personnel living there. He also held a position as Fraser City Councilman in the early 1980’s.
George contributed to his community in many ways. He was very active with the Fraser Lions Club and Goodfellows for many years and later joined the Vietnam Veterans of America, Detroit Chapter 9 and VFW Post 6691 in Fraser, both of which he was extremely active. Three of his many accomplishments include; raising funds for the return of POW/MIA’s lost in the Vietnam War, bringing the “Huey” helicopter memorial to Fraser and serving over ten years with the Michigan Vietnam Monument Commission in Lansing which was dedicated November 11, 2001.
George will truly be missed by all those who have been a major part of his life. A caring, selfless, and giving man who was up to any challenge put before him.
